 About the Book

The group of diseases known as diffuse parenchymal lung diseases (DPLDs) have recently been subject to significant research into the underlying disease processes and their prognoses. One of the most prevalent of the DPLDs has been idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), which is a progressive disease of the lung. Until recently, the only identifiable treatment for IPF has been successful lung transplantation, but recent published research gives hope of alternative treatments. In this up to date book, the editor reviews the published medical literature of the past year, and summarizes some of the most important new developments in the field, based on discussion of the landmark papers of the period. In addition, a literature review section provides a useful guide to a wider range of one hundred related papers from the same period. This book will enable the pulmonologist or other respiratory physician to update him or herself rapidly on the latest developments in a complex and fascinating field.
